Year 9 is a super exciting time for our students, they now have the wonderful task of choosing their options for GCSE’s. Provided they have worked hard, are willing to work harder and have a goal in mind… then they can choose whichever subjects they like!
During Year 9, they start some GCSE courses in core subjects already. This requires a high level of focus and maturity that I know my year group have been developing throughout Year 8. During Year 8, this year group were involved in a number of exciting opportunities with universities, colleges, sports, student voice and much more. When we started the year I asked them to Think Big, they listened and I am really proud of their achievements so far.
As their Head of Year 9 I hold very high standards, I expect perfect attendance, punctuality, behaviour and most of all, effort. By working collaboratively with students, staff and of course, parents, we can ensure success for all learners.
Recently, we have explored our values here at JRCS and have developed a new motto to adhere to: Knowledge is Power, Character is Key. This is reflected throughout all that we do in Year 9, through our learning in and outside the classroom and in our tutorial programme that focusses on the important elements of a good character. Specifically, there are 5 R’s that I know every student in Year 9 can leave JRCS with:
Respect. Responsibility. Resilience. Resourcefulness. Reflection.
We enjoy celebrating our successes and do this regularly both in our Year Team Assemblies and in Tutor Time. On the Report Ranking section, you will find the names of the latest students to have achieved the best scores in mindset, behaviour and homework.
It is a privilege to be Head of Year 9 and I cannot wait to see where this academic Year will take us.
