We utilise three different areas to achieve this:
- Pastoral Support Team
- Careers advice and guidance
- Enterprise Education
Pastoral Support Team
Form tutors and Heads of Year track students’ achievement and are able to intervene if necessary. Progress cards are regularly updated after every report entry point in order to raise aspirations and to prevent any student being left behind. At key transition points students are supported with decision making.
Careers and Pathways
We believe at JRCS that all students from Years 7-13 should have access to information, advice and guidance to enable them to make informed decisions about their future careers and pathways.
It is important that all students are fully supported and guided through the process of planning their future by having a full programme of careers education which will help students to develop the skills and knowledge to understand themselves, research careers available, make informed decisions to enable them to move successfully onto the next chapter.
The programme is delivered through:
- PSHE
- Insight Day visits
- Assemblies
- Trips
- Enrichment programmes
- Form time
- Individual departments
- One-One guidance

Schools have a statutory duty to provide access to impartial and independent career guidance to young people from Year 8 to Year 13. The impartial and independent careers advice and guidance should be from a qualified career professional (level 6 qualified)
JRCS work in partnership with BDSIP and have a level 6 Careers Adviser who attends school on Tuesday and Friday each week at 8.45-3.30pm
The one-one career guidance meetings include information about a wide range of education and training options available including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways. This is provided with the best interests of each individual student and they are given a bespoke action plan after their meeting to share with their parents/carers.
Parents are included in all aspects of their Childs progression through parents’ evenings, form tutors, subject leaders and parents can attend the one-to-one careers meetings.
