Anna, Francesca and I joined the English department as NQTs together in 2011. We’ve worked closely with one another ever since, and have become good friends as well as colleagues.
Today, we work together in leading the department: Anna as KS4 Coordinator, Francesca as Second in English with responsibility for KS5, and myself as Director of Learning.
The school first appealed to me because of the excellent induction programme offered to NQTs. I wanted to work in a busy department as part of an inner London school, and was impressed by how friendly JRCS students were on my interview day.
I moved into teaching after working as a PR Consultant for four years after university, and was initially worried that the move might mean taking a step backwards in terms of my career development. On the contrary, what I’ve found since joining JRCS is that there are strong professional development opportunities which have allowed me to progress into the head of department role relatively quickly.
Working here is in equal parts challenging and rewarding. The thing that keeps me enthusiastic about coming to work every day is the chance to work with people who I continue to learn from, and who I genuinely get along with.
