The vast majority of CPD at JRCS is focused on improving the quality of our teaching and learning, in line with whole school and departmental development priorities. CPD at JRCS comes in many forms: our programme of twilight CPD sessions, high quality external courses and the ongoing financial support we offer to staff who want to continue to study towards an MA in education.
Over the past two years our CPD programme has included:
- The implementation of our ‘Knowledge is Power’ initiative which supports teachers to effectively teach important knowledge to students, and our ‘Character is Key’ initiative which, through the guidance of the 5 Rs helps shape respectful, resilient, resourceful, responsible and reflective young adults.
- Our hugely successful ‘Teaching Squares’: over 500 hours of informal developmental observations over two rounds of the programme (over 80% of teaching staff involved)
- Workshops run by staff who have chosen to join the ‘Teaching and learning Group’, these included blogs, task marking, ‘class dojo’, developing challenging enquiry questions, differentiation and questioning – 95% of staff attending agreed the sessions had been worthwhile and had informed their teaching practice going forward
- Work in departments on implementing the new GCSE and A-Level specifications
- ‘Power of Words’ literacy launch and ‘Go Figure!’ numeracy launch event
- ‘Prevent’ training delivered to all staff by the Metropolitan Police and Barking and Dagenham LA
- 8 colleagues sponsored by the school to become Fellows of the nationally acclaimed ‘Teaching Leaders’ programme: http://www.teachingleaders.org.uk/
- A range of colleagues from various departments undertaking MA qualifications in education with financial backing from the school
