Year 9 is an important and exciting year for all students and we have very high expectations of them. Our focus this year is on options and opportunities. We encourage our students to work hard towards their future goals and think about how they are going to be successful in achieving them.
Our Year 9 students have many opportunities this year to develop their skills and confidence. We are able to offer a range of exciting opportunities with universities and colleges including UCL’s Sutton Scholars Programme, LSE’s mentoring programme and an extended mentoring partnership with UEL. We also encourage students to join in extra-curricular activities as well as becoming part of a Student Voice team. I am really proud of how many students get involved with the opportunities that are presented to them. They have big dreams and ambitions and we are here to guide and support the person that they want to become.
Success for all is celebrated through LOCs, behaviour points, phone calls home, certificates and reward trips. Our Year 9 Celebration Event will celebrate personal and academic achievements of our students. The Interform competition runs across Year 9 and students will gain points for their form in a number of ways including behaviour, attendance and engaging in different opportunities. The winning form will be invited to a reward trip to celebrate their success.
We expect our students to have excellent attendance and punctuality, be organised and prepared to learn. They should bring the correct equipment (pen, pencil, ruler, planner, reading book and scientific calculator) and resources to lessons, and ensure that homework is completed regularly and on time.
We ask that parents and carers support us when students do not meet our expectations and encourage our young people to take responsibility for their actions. We also ask that parents and carers check the planner regularly and sign it every weekend. It is also important that the completion of homework is monitored at home.
