Year 7 and 8 students celebrated British Science Week last week and took part in many different activities both in lesson and after school. In their science lessons they took part in forensic fingerprint analysis, investigated secret messages and coding, including morse code, and had a try at making their own paint from natural pigments.
Year 7 class making egg tempura paint from natural pigments and some of the images they made.
Our A-level Physics students also ran an after school activity where students were able to build circuits and send their own messages in morse code and had to use teamwork to build parachutes to protect falling eggs. Some classes also started growing their own seeds in relation to the week’s theme on GROWTH, and we currently have sunflowers, potatoes, tomatoes and other seeds growing, some of which students will be able to bring home over Easter, and some will be planted in the Peace Garden.
Thank you so much to those A-level students who supported these activities and a huge thanks to our Science Technicians, without whom none of this would have been possible.
National British Science Week Poster Competition!
Reminder that the poster competition on the theme of ‘GROWTH’ runs until Monday 28th March so please ensure any outstanding entries are handed to Mrs Brook by that date. Prizes to be won and the best five entries will be submitted to the national competition.
