05 Jul JRCS General Election
Well done!
Thursday this week saw the UK heading to the polling stations to vote for their preferred political parties and next Prime Minister. Students from Years 7–13 were invited to Boothroyd Hall to place their vote in the JRCS General Election.
Information was provided on each of the candidates from the five main parties listed on the BBC News website and basic information from that same source was provided for each of these parties to ensure impartiality. Rules were put into place to help students experience a formal vote.
The event was run by the Year 12 BTEC Business class who, although not even old enough yet to vote themselves, felt it was important to give our young people a voice. They were also assessed on this activity in terms of teamwork as part of their Level 3 course. I was very impressed with Victoria, who had been made team leader for this project. She handled herself with exceptional professionalism. Thanks to everyone involved for making this happen. I hope after having the opportunity to cast their own vote today, that the students of our school community will pay more of an interest to the outcome of the UK General Election.
