19 Jan KS3 Girls Rugby Festival
Well done girls!
The Under 13 Girls Rugby Team participated in the Borough Girls Rugby Development Festival on Tuesday 16th January at Barking Rugby Club. The girls have been training hard on Monday evenings with Keith Hughes our resident Rugby Coach and some have even joined Barking RFC to further their skills and knowledge of the game.
We drew our first game against Eastbrook and the girls demonstrated some fantastic tackling skills and strong running to score 3 tries. Robert Clack brought a more experienced side to the competition and this was reflected in the 6-2 result during the following game. This knocked our confidence a little bit and we conceded a couple of early tries to Barking Abbey in the third game which left us trailing behind.
Finally, we played Eastbury in a closely fought battle and again they were the first to score. We then came back with 3 fantastic tries to put us in the lead until the closing seconds when they came back at us with a strong attack. We eventually drew the match 3 -3 which unfortunately meant we did not progress to the finals.
Keith and the organisers commented on the progress our girls have made in terms of their skills and knowledge of the game and we will continue to grow the squad though Rugby in PE lessons and extra-curricular opportunities.
Well done to the following girls who were involved:
Nesta Njuguna 7G, Mae Turner 7G, Bethanie North 7C, Lola Olayede 7F, Elle Barker 7G, Rubyn Parker 7H, Destiny Rosier-Welsh 7H, Summer Cox 8I, Stacey Levitt 7H, Jamilah Lartey 7F and Melani Marinova 8I.
