23 Mar KS3 Girls Rugby Festival
We took 16 KS3 girls over the road to Barking RFC to participate in a Girls Rugby Development Festival run by the London School of Economics Women’s Rugby Team. The day started with a circuit of rugby specific skills drills developing core rugby skills such as passing and tackling. This gave the girls the opportunity to practice their technique and develop the skills they have been learning in KS3 lessons. The team then competed in a small tournament against other local schools including Warren, Eastbrook, Barking Abbey and Robert Clack. We won two matches and lost two matches and the girls came away with a positive attitude to girls rugby and the day certainly helped to instil rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. The girls finally had an opportunity to ask questions to the LSE ladies about their involvement in women’s rugby and courses in higher education. Thanks to Mr Kersey and Mr Bailey for accompanying the girls and well done to all involved.
