The past term’s work has seen students continuing to develop their performance and compositional skills from Years 7 through to 13. Year 11 GCSE Music students continue to prepare for their solo and ensemble performance recordings which will take place in January 2020, and we have enjoyed another fantastic assembly vocal performance of Des’ree’s 1994 hit single, You Gotta Be, presented by Sulaiman, Nancie and Venessa. Filip also gave an excellent performance of Beethoven’s piano solo, Fur Elise.
20 JRCS Choir members participated enthusiastically in their acapella vocal workshop led by the VCM Foundation’s Victoria, on behalf of Jack Petchey. Students will perform in the regional final of the Jack Petchey Pitch Perfect competition, in January at The Broadway Theatre, Barking.
It was great to see Jonjoe performing at the beautiful LSO St. Luke’s venue in Old Street at the weekend. Jonjoe performed as part of the London Symphony Orchestra and Barking and Dagenham collaborative inclusion project. All of the performances on the evening followed the theme of ‘Time’ and Jonjoe’s ensemble performed original compositions, as well as favourites Havana, and We Will Rock You, with its driving rhythmic pattern performed by the audience.
On Tuesday the Music Department hosted the first Recital Evening of the year. Outstanding performances were given by the participants, and we are thankful to all of our instrumental and vocal teaching staff for preparing the students so well. Special thanks to Mr Barquilla for his inspirational guitar solo in the new Jazz Band’s debut performance, to Mr Jenner for accompanying students at the event, to Miss Ford for her support in preparing for the event, and to all JRCS staff, parents and friends who supported us on the day.
