06 Sep Silver and Gold D of E Summer Success
In the first two weeks of the Summer term, two groups of students from last year’s Year 11 and 12 worked very hard to complete the expedition section of their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The first group to complete their expedition were the Year 11 Silver group, who took on the challenge of a three day trek across the South Downs, undertaking a practice expedition on 3rd – 5th July, and then completing their qualifying expedition on 11th – 13th July. This group were Shanise Garner, Luke Craigie and Ire Ajala. They were also joined by Alperen Oktay who was able to come along and make up the numbers and gain some valuable experience. Mr Hargreaves helped to supervise on the practice expedition and Mr Kilminster helped with supervising the group and also acted as the group’s assessor.
The Year 12 Gold group completed a four day canoeing expedition on the River Wye, leaving the town of Hay-on Wye on Tuesday 16th July and ending up at Symonds Yat on Saturday 19th July. This group were Alperen Oktay, Daniel Gill, Nathan Rehmat, Lauren Simson, Emma Smith, Yewande Oginni and Emily Fawsitt. Terry Dignam helped with supervising this group and Justin Bradley of Trewern acted as their assessor.
Congratulations to both groups on their brilliant success and all the hard work organisation and planning that they put into their expeditions. A huge thank you also to the staff who supervised and assessed both groups.
