Trip to Parliament
On the Politics trip we went to Parliament, whilst we were there we watched the speaker’s procession. The speaker’s procession is a formal ceremony when the speaker, John Bercow, opens the House of Commons, this can be observed by the public and takes place in the lobby where anyone can talk to an MP if they want a change in how our country is run. We also sat in the gallery and watched a question time in the House of Lords on recycling and a question time in the House of Commons on pensions. Whilst in the Houses of Parliament we saw where four suffragettes had chained themselves to the statues in protest in order to get their right to vote. We were there in the same week that marked the centenary of the success of their campaign.
