First Give
All the Year 12 students took part in First Give last term. This programme helps students get involved with their communities and with local charities. Each tutor group chose a charity and they did some fund raising or awareness raising in school. As well as this, they learnt some presentation skills as they put together bids to win £1000 from the Jack Petchey Foundation for their chosen charity. The four charities we supported this term were Mitchell’s Miracles, Refuge, Sane and Time to Talk.
We held class finals where every student presented their bid in front of their group and two members of staff. From each tutor group one set of students went forward to the school final, which was held after school just before Christmas.
The school final was a great success. We were joined by Governors, parents and staff to watch four high quality presentations, and the judging panel found it very difficult to choose a winning group. After the judges’ deliberations Sabrina Asrafova, Laurent Brandao and Jessica Smith were victorious for Sane with Naseemah Amina, Amine Aweis, Angel Churchward and Charlotte Pearson for Mitchell’s Miracles a very close second. The other finalists were Hanan Abdulhamid, Jamie Adekeye, Margaret Adesunloro, Lauren Tooze and Emilijla Vanagaite.
I would like to thank the four members of staff who have led the tutor groups as they prepared, Mr Coupland, Mr Hinchliffe, Miss Simpson and Miss Tasneem.
I was very proud of all the students and look forward to the Southern Consortium First Give final at the end of January when the Sane group will bid for £500 against the winning teams from the consortium.
