16 Mar WE Day UK 2018
Jo Richardson Community School is one of the WE Schools, helping to make a change in the world, a number of our Student Leaders were invited back to WE Day UK at Wembley Stadium on the Wednesday 7th March to take part in the annual celebration of a global community of change makers. Our incredible students gathered with over 12,000 other young world-changers from across the country to dream big, talk about social action, and of course, celebrate all the positive changes we have been making!
Our children were moved by some of the most emotive and inspirational speeches by many including Tokio Myers, Katie Piper, Lily Collins, Alexandra Burke and Princess’ Eugenie and Beatrice. Included in the star studded line up were guest speaker appearances from Shanise Garner in Year 10 and Miss Boller. WE Movement chose JRCS to highlight the incredible work done by young people at our school and around the country to help others in need. Both student and teacher spoke about the incredible social action and student leadership work JRCS does. Foodbank, Silent March Campaign, Charity Fundraising and Peer Mediation were all highlighted as exceptional examples of social action for change.
Shanise Garner 10H – “Going to WE Day was an amazing opportunity for me to speak in front of 12000 people, something I thought I would never do. Speaking to lots of celebrities and meeting people I would have never met before is something incredible. We Day is a great experience for us students as we get to listen to inspiring speakers”.
