30 Sep Year 10 Bronze DofE Award
Last weekend 18 Year 10 students went away to Danbury Outdoor Centre to make a start on their expedition training. Following a camp craft session earlier last week they managed to put up tents and use camping stoves to cook themselves an evening meal. There then followed a camp fire with toasted marshmallows and a night walk.
The group rose early on the Saturday and cooked their own breakfast before packing up their belongings and setting out on a seven mile walk, and learning to navigate using an Ordnance Survey map. Needless to say the journey home was a good deal more quiet than the journey on Friday night. Many congratulations to all the students who took part, who rose brilliantly to the challenges that they faced throughout the weekend and were a pleasure to take away from school. They were: Lauren Simson, Ryan Maun, Edward Stemarthe, Emma Smith, Emily Fawsitt, Daniel Gill, Billy Smith, Nathan Rehmat, Brandon Filbert, Sean Mwangi, Davaughn Smith, Temi Oluwole, Esther Aluko, Elizabeth Mwaura, Yewande Oginni, Filip Fois, Faizaan Mahmood and Jovan Nenadovic.
Last but by no means least, thank you very much to the staff from the JRCS D of E staff group who gave up their time over the weekend to supervise the students, helping to consolidate their camp craft skills and teaching them navigation skills, they were:
Mr Hargreaves, Miss Moody, Mr Kilminster and D of E volunteer Bill Lockton.
I’m really looking forward to the next expedition with this group!
