01 Oct Year 10 re-designing Becontree
Last week a Year 10 Design and Technology class generated great ideas for the redesign of a Gale Street Junction. They collaborated with Nintim Architects who ran an ideas workshop as part of their Becontree Forever project ‘Squaring the Corners’.
As a class we walked to the junction and the architects, Mhairi and Jack, lead us in a site analysis. We thought about how the place looks, if it feels safe, if the junction has anything interesting and if we would want to meet our friends or spend time there. The class had some great insights that informed wonderful design ideas; for bridges, different boundaries, seats and shelters that would feel both safe and inviting.
Our ideas may well inform how the junction changes so watch out for your ideas being built in November Year 10 DT!
This was part of the Becontree Forever Festival, led by LB Barking and Dagenham to mark 100 years of the Becontree Estate. It’s worth looking out for more opportunities on their web page becontreeforever.uk.
