08 Mar Year 8 girls give rugby a go!
On Friday 4th March it was my privilege to accompany 19 enthusiastic young women from Year 8 who were taking part in a day of rugby at Barking Rugby Club run by the women’s rugby team at the London School of Economics (LSE). These students had undertaken a ten week unit of work on rugby as part of Year 8 PE and were enthusiastic about learning more. They rotated around a variety of activities covering a range of rugby skills, including touch rugby, tackling, rucking, passing and moving. Our students were complimented on their enthusiasm, dedication and excellent behaviour. They achieved LOCs all round and Sandra Redzynska received a goody bag from Alice, the JRCS group buddy for her brilliant efforts throughout the day, (although I know that if Alice had had 19 bags then everyone would have got one, as they certainly deserved it). The students involved were: Rebecca Marku 8E, Elizabeth Ogunyanwo 8G, Lily Johnson 8B, Sally Turner 8A, Kacey Smith 8B, Ellie Brown 8D, Victoria Bertrand 8C, Jasmin Green 8B, Chelsea Restarick 8D, Samira Begum 8E, Khai Sesay 8D, Alishba Saleemi 8A, Paige Millington 8D, Sandra Redzynska 8D, Sara Marques 8A, Vanessa De Gouveia 8A, Mia Barrett 8B, Gerren Ntiri 8G and Frankie Hendricks 8C. Thanks also go to Ms Boulton for organising this trip, and Miss Downey for helping to accompany the students on the day. It was also lovely to see Mr Kersey, Miss Boulton and Mr Smith (Headteacher) who came over at lunch time to support the event.
If you are aged 11 – 16, female and have been inspired by the efforts of these girls in Year 8 then Barking Rugby Club are running a session for girls only aged 11 – 16 every Monday evening 7 – 8pm. For further information e-mail k.hughes2@hotmail.com or tel 07513 413576.
