02 Nov Young People’s Wellbeing Summit
On World Mental Health Day (10th October 2018), Jo Richardson were proud to host the first ever student led Young People’s Wellbeing Summit in Barking and Dagenham. What a fantastic day it was!
Planning started 10 months ago when students from Jo Richardson and Eastbury School got together to discuss mental health. They decided to plan a day where they would run a variety of workshops for students led by themselves. It was agreed that we would invite every Secondary School in Barking and Dagenham to attend the day with a group of students. The wheels were set in motion and the hard work began.
Prepared and waiting on the morning of the event, the students were a bit apprehensive and nervous wondering how the day would go. Would the invited schools attend? Would the workshops go well? Were we ready?
The event went beyond our expectations it was an absolutely amazing day! Not only did all the students attend, there were also many representatives from the Borough who came to talk or just support the day. Our young people did us proud and the overwhelming feeling from the day was that we had to continue talking about our wellbeing and recognising that the more open we are the more people can be supported. The students who attend were asked to go back and write a pledge as to what they are going to do to make a difference at their school.
The day was such a success that it has been agreed it will go ahead again next year. Congratulations to you all.
