We started the day off with a breakfast of either cereal or toast to set us off for our packed day with a range of emotions. We left the hostel at 8 am and caught taxis to the pier to meet the boat taking us to an incredible island. As we boarded the boat we got to meet the instructors that guided us for the day and taught us several key skills for being a diver. After arriving at the island we all completed a 200m swim and had a 10-minute recovery whilst floating in the water, which was very relaxing. Then, we reloaded with some biscuits to keep us going for the rest of the day to learn new skills and put them in to practice as smaller groups to eliminate confusion and enhance the diving experience for later on in the week. We did the first exercises in shallow water then moved a little deeper until time to get back on the boats.
We stopped off on the island for a refreshing lunch, whilst there we saw a monkey stealing food and another holding a baby monkey which was breathtaking for us since we had no expectations of witnessing them. In addition to the monkeys, we saw a range of colours within the sea and the majority of us found the boat ride to be exhilarating.
After lunch we we went to a new cove and dived deeper for our first “open water” dive. Whilst down under the water we repeated the skills we had done in the shallows.
Overall, there were many different experiences of the day and at different moments and amazing achievements were made as many conquered their fears.
