Saturday 21st July
Day 13 – PADI D-Day
Blogger: Alfie S
Early morning, as per usual, with toast for breakfast. We then received a shock on our way to the pier – looming in the sky was a dark cloud covering the horizon, bringing with it stormy winds and violent rain. No boats were allowed into the harbour so our diving was postponed. This allowed us time to complete our final theory exams and learn about dive pressure and time tables. Everyone passed with flying colours at around 10the skies cleared and the harbour opened for business. So off we set for our final practical dive experiences.
We had two dives planned for today before lunch, both based at Gaya Island but in different spots. Both dives went uninterrupted and were completely successful . Some people were lucky enough to seethe Sea Turtles that we’re in the area.. some were almost 2 metres from top to tail. After lunch on Gaya Island, and a few last pictures – plus the excitement as a monkey went to steal our bags whilst we posed for a photo in the sea ( happily Alex chased it off), we received some feedback from the mornings exam.
On return to Jesselton Point Pier we received our PADI certificates, had pictures taken with instructors and said last goodbyes.
We headed back to the hostel in 3 groups each with a task to do on the way. Miss Boller played some competitive table tennis matches at the hostel before we headed out for dinner everyone got their own style food in a take-away version and we all met to eat together at B.B. Cafe just below the hostel to eat together with live entertainment. Great food, great people, great music and great atmosphere. I cannot think of a better way to end our final PADI day and diving phase of Borneo 2018.
Massive thanks to Borneo Dreams team for keeping us safe, motivated and enthused for a future diving experience.
