Tuesday 24th July
Day 16
Return to KK

Today was an early start with everyone up at 4:45am ready for our sunrise River Ride. Everyone was hoping to see the Pygmy Elephants, as tracks had been seen the previous day, unfortunately they didn’t appear. However, we were treated to the sight of wild orang-utans instead, which is quite lucky and definitely made Miss Campbell’s day!
After the river ride we had breakfast and packed up to go to the Gomantong Caves, one of the largest cave systems in Malaysia and a legal source of “bird’s nest” (but only when harvested by those allowed). The cave was filled with mountains of cockroaches, whilst the ceiling was carpeted with bats and swiftlets. Although the cave was incredible to see – the smell was quite the opposite (and hats highly recommended)!
Once finished in the caves it was back onto the bus to get to our meet point in order to pick up the express bus back to Kota Kinabalu. Our lunch stop turned from an hour to two and a half due to having to wait for a replacement bus as our air conditioning broke!
Finally back at Inaman we piled into taxis and got back to The Dock In, our residence for the night.
Tomorrow is our last day before flying in the evening. Bob, our in-country agent, has managed to get us the day at a 5* beach hotel ?
Just checking – everyone got everything?!
