Saturday 14th July
Day 6b
Blogger – Emily C
6am start everyone up, thanks to Lewis – all the boys too. Lewis was leader for the day and was great. Putting us into partners and making concrete, and making sure everyone was hydrated throughout the day (as it was extra hot).
During the day we proceeded to make concrete for the floor of the toilet and entrance steps. One team had to go and collect stoned sand down by the river for the concrete mix. When back everyone joined in and got involved which really made the work much easier.
Luckily for us, yet more amazing food was provided and kept us going. Regular breaks kept us going and came round fast, seeming like we had only just started again but our bodies were telling us otherwise. The children joined us again and were so nice. Considering they don’t have much themselves they were generous in giving out gifts, and always said hello in the morning, usually with a hug.
In the afternoon the majority of the group went to teach English, after which the children went round repeating what they had learnt. This was really nice to see as they were happy to get involved and wanted to learn.
As we moved towards the end of the day, we were finishing cementing the toilet area and also the top of the waste pit we had dug yesterday. We were given a special area of concrete to mark in JRCS 2018. The idea to do this came from the people we were helping to build the area.
Gathering everyone up at the end of the day was a mission. On the way back we stopped at the second longest suspension bridge for foot passengers . For a lot of us that was a challenge as the bridge was high and went over water. Even though it was a challenge the view took our breath away as the trees reached the sky and the sun reflects on the river below us.
We finally reached home after a long and eventful day, we all took a warm/ hot shower which was nice for all of us! After this once again given amazing dinner on which to dine and contemplate tomorrow’s walk into the jungle!
We think the blog may be delayed for tomorrow as we gather the trees do not have WiFi?
Editors note: we have actually posted this from our jungle camp – better WiFi than out of i
