An outline of what each team were doing:
Team Blanco
Alfie, Paris, Mr Marks, Miss Dormer, Rosie
Painting the white bars on Windows and the top half of the main school walls.
Painting the bars was tiring and repetitive but it got done. One side was in the direct sun so we had to make sure we drank a lot, we were on ladders to reach the top but had spotters! Most of this was with a brush but we soon got to get quicker when we were given rollers. The paint was a little watery so we had to be careful not to drip or spill.
Team Blue
Gabby, Sabrina, Daisy, Jack, Paige, Foreman
We had the job to do all the doors and bottom walls blue. We felt pretty good throughout the day and we were all motivated to get it done despite the heat. Some even got the backs of doors done!
Team Water/ Masking Tape/ anything else!
Mr Cole
Making sure the team was hydrated, that colours were separated and that the fruit the teachers had brought us was prepped for lunch!
Team Latrine
Steline, Casey, Nicky, Miss Campbell
Having volunteered it was not as bad as thought! It was difficult at first but we managed to get both sets of toilets first coated in blue on the outside, having had to brush them down first. Once we got used to the rollers and brushes it got easier. We worked well as a team motivating each other with stories and funny jokes. Then came the inside! First we had to brush out the cobwebs and dust – then work our way around the inside – just fitted 2 of us in at a time. We were very proud of the difference we made. They were green when we started and blue by the end. The actual toilets are being pulled out and replaced in the next two days – it will be a massive difference for the students.
