23 Jun Regarding Weather Adjustments – 23rd-26th June
Updates regarding the altered school week due to weather concerns.
Dear Parent / Carer,
Further to the previous message you received, arrangements for early finish are still in place for Wednesday and Thursday.
As there is still a weather warning and high temperatures expected on Friday all students will be dismissed at 12.30pm.
Wednesday school will finish at:
- 1.30pm for all students
Thursday school will finish at:
- Years 8 and 9 will be dismissed at 12.30pm
- Years 7,10-12 will be dismissed at 1.30pm
Friday:
- All students will be dismissed at 12.30pm
The school office will close at 2.45pm on Wednesday and 2.00pm on Thursday and Friday, however office emails will still be monitored.
Any students who are completing exams will need to remain on site.
If your son or daughter needs to stay at school after the dismissal time for childcare or vulnerability reasons, please email office@jorichardson.org.uk and we will make arrangements for them to stay until 3:05pm Thursday and Friday
Students who are entitled to free school meals should spend their allowance at break time.
There will be no lunch service.
Please remind your child that on the shortened days, they:
- may wear tailored school shorts
- should bring a water bottle and keep it filled (not during lessons)
- should bring a hat
- should stay inside or in the shade
- should wear sunscreen

Will students still be expected to attend school in this heat?
Yes, we are operating an early finish, classrooms are air conditioned, students are asked to bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen and stay in the shade or inside during social times .
Can my child wear PE kit to school?
No, our uniform is designed to be comfortable for students, students may wear their polo shirts untucked and wear plain black tailored knee length shorts
My child is sitting their Mock exams do they finish early?
Any students in Year 10 and 12 sitting exams will need to stay onsite
I am keeping my child at home because of this heat?
We have risk assessed and made necessary adjustments to the school day and any absence due to the weather will be unauthorised
Are PE lessons still going ahead?
Yes, students will need to bring their kit as normal, lessons will be adjusted accordingly
